Blaze Pizza Charlestown: A Blazing Disappointment

I was intrigued by the promise of fire-hot pizza at Blaze Pizza in Charlestown. Being a pizza lover, especially when it's fire-fired, I decided to give it a try. Walking in, the setup reminded me of a Qdoba for pizza pick your crust, sauce, and toppings, and they make it to order.

Pizzeria with staff in black uniforms serving pizzas with pepperoni and sausage. Warm, orange-lit interior, guests at the counter.

It was lunchtime on a Saturday, yet there were only two other people there, which isn't exactly a roaring endorsement. The two staff members behind the counter looked visibly bored, but they explained the process, and I ordered my pizza: original crust with pepperoni and sausage.

As I moved down the line to watch my pizza being made, I noticed something unexpected. The "fire-fired" oven was actually just a gas oven – no wood, no coal, just gas fire. They did seem to take care to ensure the pizza was cooked well, though.

While I was waiting, I witnessed a mix-up where they gave the wrong order to a DoorDash driver and had to remake another order for a different driver. It was a bit concerning.

Then, I realized something. After placing and receiving my order, no one had asked me to pay! It was an unusual omission.

So, there I was with my $12.99 pizza, which, to be honest, was quite small – maybe around 12 inches – and the toppings were sparse. But maybe the flavor would make up for it...

Unfortunately, it didn't. The pizza was underwhelming, bordering on mediocre. It felt on par with Little Caesars but at double the price. A Frechetta frozen pizza would have been a better choice. I had hoped for a great pizza experience, but Blaze Pizza Charlestown fell short.
