Two Weeks in the Mountain State: Tools, Trails, and Transitions

It’s been a whirlwind two weeks. If you’ve been following the journey, you know the move from Pennsylvania to West Virginia was always going to be a big pivot, but reality has a way of being even more intense than the plan. Between the haul across state lines, a new job, and shifting sites after just a week, I’m finally catching my breath.

So far? It’s been exactly the change I needed.

The Professional Pivot: A Breath of Fresh Air

Starting a new job is always a bit of a social experiment. I’ve met some cool people, though I’m still in that "observation phase" figuring out the dynamics, seeing who’s real, and who’s just putting on a front. My strategy for now is simple: keep my head down, stay in my lane, and focus on the work.

The biggest takeaway so far is the culture shift. This place is a massive upgrade from my last gig. There’s a clear list of what needs to get done, and more importantly, they actually provide the correct tools for the job. If something is missing, they get it. It’s amazing how much stress disappears when you’re actually equipped to do your work.

Home Base: Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA

After moving sites during the first week, I’ve settled into the Harpers Ferry KOA Holiday. This place is significantly larger than what I’m used to, but it’s handled with a lot of care.

The Highlights:

  • Amenities: They’ve got everything from mini-golf to a solid dog park and hiking trails right on-site.

  • Facilities: The bathhouses are clean (a high priority in this lifestyle) and the camp store is fully loaded.

  • Location: It hits the "Goldilocks" zone close enough to town to grab supplies without it being a chore, but far enough out that the nights are actually quiet.

I’ve been treated well by the staff here, and having those trails nearby has been a great way to decompress after a day at the new shop & Gambit loves being able to explore.

The Verdict (So Far)

It’s only been a little over two weeks, but the "Gambit" feels right. I’m finding my way around the area, learning the local rhythm, and most importantly I’m happy. Transitioning isn't always easy, but when the tools are right and the scenery is this good, it’s hard to complain.

Stay tuned for more updates as I dig deeper into the WV trails and get the rig (and the new job) fully dialed in.
